内容简介：

The multivariate splines, as piecewise polynomials, have been become useful tools for dealing with Computational Geometry, Computer Graphics, Computer Aided Geometric Design and Image Processing.

In Algebraic Geometry, the classical algebraic variety is to study geometric properties of the common intersection of surfaces represented by multivariate polynomials. Since the surfaces are usually represented by multivariate piecewise polynomials (multivariate splines), so the piecewise algebraic variety, defined by the common intersection of surfaces represented by multivariate splines is important in Computational Geometry, Computer Graphics, Computer Aided Geometric Design, and Image Processing.

The purpose of this talk is to introduce some recent progress on Multivariate splines, Piecewise algebraic variety and some of relative topics.

1937年生，江西南昌人，现任大连理工大学教授，博士生导师，数学科学研究所所长，国务院学位委员会第三、四届学科（数学）评议组成员，中国数学会常务理事。1959年毕业于吉林大学数学系并留校任教至1989年调到大连理工大学。曾任中国计算数学学会常务理事, 教育部数学学科规划组成员，美国《数学评论》评论员，现任国际杂志《计算及应用数学杂志》副主编、《计算及应用数学通讯》中国联络员、国际性杂志《计算数学》、《逼近论及其应用》、《高校计算数学学报》、《高校应用数学学报》等多种杂志编委，《计算方法丛书》和《研究生丛书》编委，美国传记所研究顾问，出版9本专著，还应邀为美国数学会撰写介绍建国后中国数学成就一书的《逼近论与样条函数》一章。 在国内外发表论文130多篇，在无界函数逼近方面的工作获得国际公认，在多元样条的理论方面最早做出基础性工作，得到国际公认，被国内外权威称为“突破性进展”、“国际三大流派之一”，并被国际同行大量引用于文章和专著中，有的被国际上称为“王定理”“chui-王定理”等。曾应邀赴美、加、德、日、意、法、荷、芬等国及香港地区讲学60多次， 多次出席国际学术会议并作大会综合报告、会议执行主席和学术委员会委员，传记被收入英、美、印等国家的10多个国际名人录中。

学术报告已进行,部分教授及众多研究生到场,有些研究生来晚了已没有座位。报告中王教授不但介绍了他的研究成果，还传授了科学的研究方法，并回答了师生提问。
